Hi again folks! Thanks for tuning in for another edition of The Blueprint. I’m going to keep things pretty short here again since I’ve been busy with a bunch of AI gig work. I’ve mainly been using Babel Audio, which pays pretty decently for you to contribute to audiovisual datasets through video calls with other users on the platform. You can get $50 if you sign up using my referral code here too!
Fable got axed - for now
Last week I talked about how bad of an idea it was for Anthropic to release Fable 5, a Mythos-class model, to the general public. Turns out the US Government agreed! After a day or so they had to shut it down due to security concerns.
Anthropic’s response has been…weird. They seem to not really believe that a jailbreak exists for Fable, and say that it’s not that serious even if it does exist. This is a pretty stark contrast to their ‘safety-first’ approach that they took with Mythos. Also, we’re talking about 0-day vulnerabilities here - these will inevitably advance and become more sophisticated even if a patch is released. In our last issue here, we talked about recent cybersecurity vulnerabilities. One thing I consistently saw in my research was that patching 0-day vulnerabilities isn’t really enough anymore, and that the scale of damage that can be done through these has increased exponentially. So it seems odd that Anthropic is either unaware of this or is purposely turning the other cheek, just a few short months after committing to use one of their strongest models for good when it comes to cybersecurity.
Really strange stuff, and it’ll be interesting to see how the situation develops. It’d be cool to use a new shiny model, but also I don’t want every device and program on the planet to get hacked!
Quick news
